Thrift Haul — Ep. 001

Welcome to the very first thrift haul on my blog. :) Super super excited to be doing these. Previously, I’ve done them in video format and didn’t really care for the filming process but loved sharing thrifted pieces. So, I figured I’d start sharing my thrift hauls this way!

When I first started thrifting, it wasn’t for ethical or ecological reasons. It was (and still is) because I love vintage and nostalgia lewks. But as I started to gain knowledge and shift my awareness to how clothes in the fast fashion industry were being made and how it affected our planet, I learned that there were many more reasons to shop second hand. Clothing that is made via fast fashion exploits the workers who make them by paying them very little. In addition, this industry plays a huge part in destroying the planet that we call home. The fast industry is one of the most wasteful industries because new trends are created almost everyday in an attempt to convince consumers to spend their money, resulting in them tossing out their old garments. Slow fashion really does make a difference in the world we live in both sustainably and ecologically. For more information about slow fashion, check out fashionrevolution.org and/or The True Cost (on Netflix).

Whew! Now that we have that covered, I have to admit, I am not perfect. I am human. However, I do thrift about 90 percent of my clothing. In my opinion, balance is really important in any lifestyle. But anyway, to the point… I create this type of content because I genuinely enjoy it and I want to show you all that it is possible to serve lewkkkksssss and still be a sustainable kween.

Let’s start with the clothing/wearable items first and then get into decor and kitchenware. Before leaving the thrift store, I make sure to check the accessory section! This is something that I failed to do in the beginning. Rookie mistake because I was really missing out on some gems. I don’t want you to think that there are always amaaaaaaazing pieces at the Goodwill because honestly, it’s usually a hit or miss. Anyway, I found this beautiful scarf in the accessories department and immediately had to grab it. It is a silk scarf that brings life to any basic fit. Now you can wear it around your neck (i guess lol) or as a head scarf as I did here. I’m sure there are other ways to wear it. You just have to get creative and allow your personal style shine through.

These tops are a reflection of my overall style and current wardrobe. I really like to keep my outfits simple and minimal. Pieces that effortlessly pair with mom jeans are the center of my style. I was a little hesitant on grabbing the shimmery button down as I thought it would clash with the other items in my closet. I was wrong. It is a little different (not really) than what I would normally wear but the shiny-ness almost scared me away. I am making it a priority to step out of my comfort zone and wear pieces that scare me. And not really scare me… but those pieces that I feel like people would take a second look and label my outfit as weird. But honestly, those are the best pieces. I’m challenging myself to find more of those.

If you aren’t able to tell yet, I am obsessed with blush pink. It is one of the colors on my brand board and in general, it’s just a really nice settle color. Because I take a lot of photos of my food, I always look for vintage and even modern kitchenware and dishes! I found these at the Goodwill in my hometown in Missouri and was so surprised. I am working on improving my food styling skills so hopefully, these pieces will help with that!
